Project: Blue: Art for the Ocean

Christie’s - 20th/21st Century Art Marquee Week

Art Consultant for Blue Marine

Over thirty artists including Marina Abramović, Peter Doig, Hurvin Anderson, Ai Weiwei, Shirin Neshat, Kenny Scharf and Edmund de Waal united to donate works to Blue: Art for the Ocean, a philanthropic initiative launched by Blue Marine and Christie’s, to raise critical funds for the ocean. The artwork was sold during the auction house’s 20th/21st Century Art Marquee Week sales, coinciding with Frieze Art Fair in London and all proceeds benefited Blue Marine, a charity dedicated to protecting the ocean and tackling overfishing, one of the world’s biggest environmental problems.

Every lot sold went towards a Blue Marine project, supporting the progress of the UN’s Global Framework goal of “30x30” - protecting 30 per cent of the ocean by 2030. Despite being a vital function that stabilises the Earth’s climate, our ocean is in danger, and a triple threat of biodiversity loss, habitat destruction and climate change challenge the health of the ocean, on which all life on earth depends.
